So it's that time of year again on campus, student society (ams) elections....another waste of time. It was almost comical a few days ago when the candidates took over one of the common areas in the student building to pitch their platform. I guess it was a strong correlation on how useless they are because a whole bunch of them didn't even show! No crap eh?
It was almost like a children's comedy the way it played out. Nobody was really listening, I sure as hell wasn't. There was some keener (who would make an excellent member of the NDP) who was calling people out on crap like how many senate meetings they've been to, "cause i've been to a lot man!" All the candidates knew each other and were horsing around blowing bubbles and stuff, it was like a giant meeting of the ego club. Question sessions rapidly degenerated: Team Jacob or edward? Who do you have a mancrush on? Crap like that... also, everything they said was all the same: sustainability this, lower tuition that, we need to be treated like adults (kinda ironic no?)! So it takes weeks for relentless self promotion to appeal to a very small minority, all to decide who gets on the VIP list that "represents" the students' "best interests"; in other words, they just listen to the board and just have to sit there and take it as they find more ways to screw people over! Who am I to care? I'm done in a few months anways! By the time anything is implemented, such as the much vaunted rapid transit to campus....everyone that suffered through that presentation will be long gone! Call me pessimistic, but it's not far from the truth!
They say being involved in student politics will prepare you for the future, what other alternatives are there (note sarcasm)? I guess the main lesson they can learn applies in the wisdom that all politicians should pay heed to: learn when to shut your damn mouth!
But I digress...
