Madness descends upon a wave of thunder!

To follow up on the last post I present to you another project of grandiosity that when complete it shall open rifts from the depths of hell, rend empires asunder, make everyone under its reach weep instantly, make your ears bleed from awesome, yet it shall move you at the same time...well you get the picture! I'm going to build a guitar. I figured I'd save quite a bit doing the work on my own rather than forking over more than a thousand dollars on a new one. There is a website, www.warmoth.com, that specializes in producing custom guitars. I figured I would just buy a separate neck and body and do the finishing and configuration on my own, think of the bass as a pilot project.

So I want to go with a shape that still screams rock/ metal, yet at the same time is suitable for other environments. I fell up the "Z" body shape and I absolutely love it. I was thinking of a veneered top (flame or quilted maple) over a thick wood like mahogany (great sustain and warmer, fuller tones). The reason for the veneered top is that I want to stain it, keeping the amazing figures of the veneer underneath. Staining it black first to define the deeper grains, then sand off the top and cover it with another colour, it will end up giving it a rich depth, plus it also looks dead sexy! Not sure on what colour yet, so if anyone has any input please let me know!

For the neck I originally found a neck from another custom shop (www.lvguitars.com), there was a really sweet neck that has a dragon inlay up the fingerboard. For the first one though I though it might complicate things because of the neck pocket depth and the scale, because I want to also mount a Floyd Rose Tremolo system to make this beast dive bomb worthy! So I found another item on warmoth, based off of the signature headstocks of the amazing luthier Ken Lawrence, most famously recognized on one of James Hetfield's explorer style guitars from ken! So comments and insight are greatly appreciated!
